Who we are
ABC is a collective of current and former bicycle messengers, friends, and supporters based in London. We’re a community built around the shared experiences of courier life — the long days on the road, the grind of gig work, the freedom of riding, and the friendships that come from it. Most of us are self-employed and work under precarious conditions with little protection, no guaranteed pay, and no safety net. ABC was created as a way to look out for one another, pool our resources, and build something positive together — a network that can support, represent, and celebrate the people who keep the city moving.
Our mission
Our mission is to promote unity and solidarity within the courier community and beyond. We aim to connect riders, organisers, and allies; to welcome new and returning couriers; and to support one another through mutual aid, creative projects, and community action. We maintain relationships with organisations that share our values — including the London Courier Emergency Fund (LCEF), which helps injured riders — and stand up for workers’ rights in an industry that often leaves people isolated and unprotected.
What we do
Through monthly contributions from members (a voluntary £10/month), ABC raises funds to organise and support events like alleycat races, art shows, meals, parties, and the annual messenger championships. These funds also help subsidise creative projects — such as printing zines or books — and seed new ideas that strengthen our community. Beyond the financial support, ABC is about creating space: space for messengers to meet, share skills, collaborate, and imagine new possibilities together. In a city where everything feels increasingly expensive and disconnected, we believe in keeping community alive — on and off the bike.
